Newfoundland highways and major arterials will soon be edged with bumpy strips of pavement designed to wake up inattentive drivers when their vehicles sway over the line.
The BC Cycling Coalition states “we object to these installations on the grounds that they compromise the safety of cyclists while trying to compensate for motorists who are: driving with excessive speed; driving while drunk or drowsy; distracted; inattentive.”

Wow! “Trying to compensate for motorists who are: driving with excessive speed; driving while drunk or drowsy; distracted; inattentive.” These seem like pretty serious issues and I’d like to think most people would take a way to combat these issues over a small inconvenience to cyclists. Then again I guess some people have their ‘priorities’ (sarcasm)

Rumble strips are soon be old technology as all the car manufacturers are developing on-broad detection systems to alert inattentive drivers that they’re driving irresponsibily (i.e. drunk, too fast, etc.). Here’s a sample:
